What Is an Inlet Isolation Valve—and Why Does It Matter?

An inlet isolation valve is a built-in feature that controls when gases are allowed to enter the pump. In models with delayed opening, the valve stays closed during startup and only opens once the pump is fully operational. This helps:

  • Prevent sudden air rushes that can stress internal components
  • Maintain vacuum levels when the pump is off
  • Reduce noise and vibration during startup
  • Protect the system from backstreaming or contamination
  • Extend the pump’s lifespan by minimizing wear

It’s a small feature that makes a big difference in performance, reliability, and system safety.

Applications

  • Backing turbomolecular pumps
  • Laboratory vacuum systems
  • Analytical instruments
  • Cleanroom environments
  • OEM system integration
